Miss Gupta has a particular interest in teaching and training and is on the faculty of a number of courses both nationally and abroad. In addition, she is a registered trainer for the Department of Health LAPCO training program which is a national training program for laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

Research

MD Thesis

Miss Gupta was awarded an MD for the thesis, 'The insulin-like growth-factor system in the pathogenesis of adenocarcinoma of the colon'. This followed a two year period of research jointly in The Academic Department of Surgery, The Royal Free Hospital, London, and the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology, The Royal Free Hospital Medical School.

The principle areas of research were:

  • Cell proliferation studies
  • Synthesis of a recombinant protein
  • Development of a nude mouse model of colorectal cancer

She had a broad scientific training and gained experience in cell culture, microscopy, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), cloning and transformation of competent cells, western blotting and image processing.
